Course Description

The course aims to provide an advanced understanding of the core principles and topics of Biochemistry and experience of the diagnostic techniques. This gives them strong footing to serve in the tertiary care clinical laboratories

Curriculum

1st Year

Autumn Term

Autumn Term is the first/odd semester of an academic session/year.

HUMAN ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY

Provide knowledge about structure and functions of cardiovascular system, lymphatic system and endocrine system.

HAEMATOLOGY

Impart knowledge about collection of blood, its preservation and understand genetic disorders and their detection.

HAEMATOLOGY LABORATORY

Impart knowledge about workflow of hematology laboratory and skills to perform coagulation tests.

IMMUNOLOGY

Provide knowledge for clinical diagnosis of diseases on the basis of antigen-antibody interaction and understand immune cells respond towards any pathogen. Also provide introduction to organ transplantation and autoimmunity.

CELL BIOLOGY

Impart knowledge of morphology and functions of various cell organelles and their interactions.

BASIC BIOCHEMISTRY AND INTERMEDIARY METABOLISM

Provide knowledge of various biomolecules, their metabolism and energy generation pathways in body.

BASIC BIOCHEMISTRY AND INTERMEDIARY METABOLISM LABORATORY

Impart skills of using various instruments and analyzing biochemical parameters to understand symptoms and consequences of different diseases and the biochemical changes involved.

Spring Term

Spring Term is the second/even semester of an academic session/year.

BIOTECHNIQUES

Acquaint with different aspects and applicability of chromatographic and spectroscopic technique.

BIOTECHNIQUES LABORATORY

Acquaint with the handling of various chromatographic separations and bioinformatics tools.

MEDICAL MICROBIOLOGY

Acquaint with different methods used for laboratory diagnosis of infectious diseases while emphasizing on fungi, viruses and parasites as well the study of bacterial structure, function and growth characteristics.

MEDICAL MICROBIOLOGY LABORATORY

Provide practical knowledge of isolation and identification of microbes and parasitological techniques.

CLINICAL BIOCHEMISTRY

Provide information about clinical changes in disorders and information about importance of metabolic pathways and their correlation with pathological alterations in diseases.

CLINICAL BIOCHEMISTRY LABORATORY

Inculcates understanding of biochemical parameters analysis in blood sample with exposure of performing different organ function tests.

MOLECULAR BIOLOGY AND HUMAN GENETICS

Imparts understanding of biology at molecular level and various abnormalities in the genome. It also provides an insight on genetic mutations.

GENERAL SEMINAR

Focuses on honing presentation and oral communication skills of students by providing opportunities to speak on contemporary issues in paramedical.

 

2nd Year

Autumn Term

Autumn Term is the first/odd semester of an academic session/year.

BIOSTATISTICS

Impart understanding of basic theory and probability in statistics with emphasis to design and valid efficient studies to address public health and clinical problems.

HISTOPATHOLOGY AND CYTOLOGY

Impart knowledge about workflow of histopathology laboratory and develop skills to stain bacteria and fungi in tissue.

HISTOPATHOLOGY AND CYTOLOGY LABORATORY

Impart knowledge about staining of bacteria and fungi in tissues and develop skills to process the tissue for section cutting.

ENDOCRINOLOGY AND CLINICAL ENZYMOLOGY

Provide knowledge about the role and mechanism of action and functions of various hormones.

ENDOCRINOLOGY AND CLINICAL ENZYMOLOGY LABORATORY

Provide understanding of principle and methodology of analyzing various enzymes and blood parameters and enable students to correlate the abnormal values of enzymes with clinical conditions.

ADVANCES IN BIOCHEMICAL SCIENCES

Impart understanding of advanced biochemical synthetic pathways and regulation of anabolic pathways in human body.

DIAGNOSTIC BIOCHEMISTRY

Impart knowledge of important biochemical tests and modern diagnostic tools in assessment of a disease.

DIAGNOSTIC BIOCHEMISTRY LABORATORY

Impart knowledge of diagnostic biochemical tests and understanding of correlation of normal and abnormal biochemical report for various clinical conditions.

SOFT SKILLS

Develop argumentation and debate skills.

INTERNSHIP

It provides the hands-on experience of advanced techniques of Clinical Biochemistry in a hospital/ lab. Students learn how to work, adjust and grow in an environment of clinical set up. Trainees, learn by doing.

Eligibility

Pass in Bachelors Degree in (MLT or Medical or Applied Medical Science or Biosciences or Medical Science & Allied Medical or Life Sciences or Veterinary Microbiology & Parasitology or Genetic Engineering & Biotechnology or Clinical Chemistry or Public Health & Allied Sciences) or equivalent and ELR.
